Students awarded College Colours for sport

Six students received College Colours for their exceptional contributions and outstanding commitment to sport at Jesus.

The winners were nominated by the Colours Committee – made up of first team captains of each College sport – and are recognised both for their achievements and cumulative service to College teams and leagues.

Sonita Alleyne, Master of °µÍø½ûÇø, who presented the Colours at a special ceremony in Upper Hall, said: “It has been an outstanding year for sport at Jesus and I’d like to thank these students who have represented us to the highest standards and are fantastic examples of our passion for and commitment to College sport.â€

The recipients are:

Harry Marsh – Nominated for his commitment to College rugby and as Captain of both mixed and men’s netball teams.

Mia Barnes – Joint captains of the women’s and non-binary football team in addition to playing netball at College and University level.

Ruari McColl – Rower and captain of the men’s lower boats who has also played College rugby and football as a player and referee.

Cai La Trobe-Roberts – Blues and ex-professional footballer who was the football team’s top scorer this year. He is also long-distance runner and contributes to other College sports including sailing and mixed netball.

Olivia Fitzpatrick  â€“  Captain of both mixed netball teams, alongside Harry, as well as playing netball at University level.

Jenni Morris – Member of first women’s rowing crew who stroked the boat to Lents headship last term.

College Colours are a long-standing Jesus tradition but disappeared for many years, before being revived by alumnus Miles Stopher in 2016/2017 when the °µÍø½ûÇø Sports Committee was re-established.

The committee, made up of all acting College first team captains (including mixed, men’s, women’s and the boat club) and the committee president, vote for around three male and three female recipients alongside a new committee president, to receive College Colours.

Anyone in College is eligible to receive an award, with approximately six people each year being selected. Awardees, further to the recognition itself, have the opportunity to purchase a °µÍø½ûÇø Colours blazer to wear at their leisure, as was tradition.
