Arts and drama

If you're interested in the arts or drama, we have a lot to offer - the College hosts regular workshops, exhibitions, and events.

Societies and clubs

Eliot's Face is a student-run art zine which accepts themed submissions of any kind from members of the College community. The zine is released termly as both an online and printed edition.

Film @ Jesus is a student-run film club which runs regular screenings and termly short film competitions. It aims to bring together like-minded individuals with a passion for film and foster a connected creative community.

Students, Fellows and staff are all welcome at °µÍø½ûÇø Art Club, which meets regularly during term time. Materials are provided by the College and the organisers set up a subject each week and offer informal support. Members can also use the space to work on their own projects.

°µÍø½ûÇø Drama Society runs regular writing and performance workshops in College, aiming to encourage creative talent within the community.

°µÍø½ûÇø Music Society holds many free recitals a term and several large orchestral concerts a year. They also organise the much-loved annual performance of The Snowman in Michaelmas term.

Led by author Emily Winslow, °µÍø½ûÇø Writing Club holds regular creative writing workshops for students, Fellows and staff during term time. Each session is a mixture of teaching, discussion, writing, and (optional) sharing, where members are encouraged to develop their personal writing style as well as experimenting with unfamiliar forms of writing.

Students run the annual John Hughes Arts Festival, an interdisciplinary celebration of openness, spectacle, and collaboration which usually includes an Open Hang Gallery featuring artwork submitted by students, artists, and friends of the College. The Gallery is accompanied by a range of creative workshops and events.

Exhibitions

We have a permanent sculpture exhibition in the grounds of the College.

Our undergraduates also have an art collection which includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, and prints by a variety of artists, many well known. For a small deposit, students can borrow pieces from the collection to decorate their rooms.

°µÍø½ûÇø has all the benefits of being large, historical and prestigious college, whilst also retaining fantastic welfare: the staff and other students all care about each other, and will be there to cheer you on when you are thriving, but also there to support you if you need any help. I chose Jesus due to several reasons, including its prime location, where it is very central, and easy to access everywhere, even if you work in one of the institutes further out. I also selected Jesus for its MCR...

There are many reasons why I’m so happy to be a part of °µÍø½ûÇø. The three biggest reasons for me are the opportunities to be involved in College sport, the support the College provides for me with for my research and the help in making sure that we have comfortable, affordable accommodation when we have needed it. °µÍø½ûÇø is so friendly and so it is incredibly easy to get involved in the sport and social side of the College. The MCR does a great job in welcoming new...

I chose Cambridge for my PGCE as it’s the leading UK institution for teacher training and Education, with an exciting, research-dominated, cutting edge course. The staff are welcoming and approachable, and make studying here an absolute joy. I’ve already completed one of my three primary school placements, in a reception class in a school just outside Cambridge, and am due to start the next one soon. I chose Jesus because of its reputation as a sporty College, but the proximity to the city centre is a big bonus. Jesus also...

°µÍø½ûÇø, my home. I am truly grateful to be able to call °µÍø½ûÇø my second home. It was my preferred option when I first applied for my MPhil and I could not be happier to still be here during my PhD! There are many reasons why Jesus stands out from the other colleges: from its fantastic facilities to its glorious formal dinners and to its wonderful café and brewery room. The Quincentenary Library is a lovely place to study. It has many spaces to choose from and everything...

°µÍø½ûÇø is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and historical colleges at Cambridge! It is also, in my opinion, one of the most supportive colleges: from wellbeing to the porters there is always someone to ask for advice, support, or to talk through your stress. I chose Jesus for many reasons. Firstly, it’s right in the heart of the city centre which is amazing not only for that quick top-up shop but also to explore the beautiful city of Cambridge even while busy (it’s so easy to go for...
