I chose Cambridge for my PGCE as it’s the leading UK institution for teacher training and Education, with an exciting, research-dominated, cutting edge course. The staff are welcoming and approachable, and make studying here an absolute joy. I’ve already completed one of my three primary school placements, in a reception class in a school just outside Cambridge, and am due to start the next one soon.
I chose Jesus because of its reputation as a sporty College, but the proximity to the city centre is a big bonus. Jesus also guarantees all PGCE students accommodation, which some other Colleges do not offer. Being a complete foodie, with an undergraduate degree in nutrition from Newcastle University, I love the College cafeteria (aka ‘Caff’). I regularly go there for evening meals after a day at school; they do the most amazing brunch at weekends, and everything’s really well priced.
The facilities at Jesus are second to none, with a beautiful chapel and fantastic choir, a great library with a fabulous selection of books and amazing sports facilities. I use these regularly, especially the boathouse as I’m on one of the College’s rowing teams. The wealth of beautiful accommodation for students, including my current shared house, is lovely.
My favourite part of Jesus is my wonderful housemates, who I know will be friends for life. Jesus is a friendly, welcoming and caring College and I feel so lucky to be here. Cambridge is stunning - every corner you walk around, there is another building to marvel at, which makes studying here even more special.
