George William Fisher, Second Lieutenant, Suffolk Regiment
George William Fisher matriculated in October 1910 after being educated first at Johannesburg College and then at Harrow. He did not graduate and disappeared from the College register in 1913 and there is no record of him taking any exams after October 1910.
Born: Brakpan, Transvaal on 4 November 1891
Fell in action: 17 November 1917
The Cambridge Society Annual Report 1919 obituary for Fisher provides no further information on him.
His headstone at Tyne Cot Cemetery in West-Vlaanderen, Belgium reads “I bare you on Eagles’ wings and brought to you unto myself”. This inscription was requested by his mother back home in South Africa and is a quotation from the Book of Exodus.
