Kenneth Sutherland Rudd, Private, King’s Own (Shropshire Light Infantry), Captain and Adjutant West Yorkshire Regiment
Kenneth Sutherland Rudd came up to °µÍø½ûÇø in October 1913, having attended Shrewsbury School, and was awarded an Entrance Scholarship.
Born: Suffolk on 13 April 1895
Fell in action: 10 October 1918
We do not have a °µÍø½ûÇø Cambridge Society Annual Report obituary for Rudd but it appears that he was resident for only one year, and it is likely that he joined up at the outbreak of war.
However, we have a couple of insights about him from the student magazine. He was the cox in the third Jesus boat in both the Lent and May races 1914 and on both occasions the boats performed well. The record for the Lent races show that he weighed 9st 8lbs. (Chanticlere, Lent Term 1914, p. 43)
We also know that Rudd took part in an Athletics meet at Oxford, against Trinity College on 23 February 1914, coming third in the Long Jump. In this meet, B.G.D. Rudd from Trinity came first in the Quarter-mile race, but we do not know if they were related. (Chanticlere, Lent Term 1914, p. 43)
Captain Rudd fell in action in France in October 1918, killed by a bursting shell.
