Choir releases new album
Praise My Soul, the latest album from our world-renowned choir is now available to buy and download.
Bringing together 21 hymns, all of which can lay claim to being established classics, the album was recorded earlier this year in the College’s 12th Century Chapel and has been released by Signum Classics.
Both choirs of °µÍø½ûÇø are featured; the College Choir of mixed voices and the Chapel Choir formed of boy choristers, sharing the same countertenors, tenors and basses. Organists Jordan Wong and Dewi Rees both play, all overseen by Director of Music, Richard Pinel.
The album notes state: “Hymns are a living link with the past yet they still find freshness and relevance in the 21st century. Thomas Aquinas commented that "hymns are the praise of God with song; a song is the exultation of the mind dwelling on eternal things, bursting forth in the voice" and this explains neatly the vital place that hymnody has enjoyed throughout the ages, and continues to do so today.
Talking about the album on the day of launch, Richard Pinel commented: “Praise My Soul is the first album released by the choir since I joined °µÍø½ûÇø as Director of Music, and I’m delighted that it is now available to buy, download and share. I hope that everyone who listens enjoys our performance, which may very well include a number of their favourite hymns."
“Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the production, including those choristers, choir members and organist who have graduated and moved on since recording took place.â€
Praise My Soul is available on CD now from the online Chapel shop or from iTunes, Spotify and other streaming services.
