Congratulations to our graduates
Congratulations to the 142 Jesuans who graduated at the University Senate House today.
There was a celebratory mood in College as our students graduated at University Senate House today, the first Degree Day in three years to be unencumbered by Covid restrictions. This was the main graduation ceremony for undergraduate students completing their three and four year degrees across a breadth of subjects, with the majority having matriculated in October 2019.
All were conferred by our Master, Sonita Alleyne, who told them: “I am immensely proud of all of you today. You have achieved some fantastic results against the backdrop of a pandemic. You have persisted with dedication, determination, curiosity and passion. I look forward to seeing what you do next."
The day began with the traditional rehearsal in the Frankopan Hall where Dr Geoff Parks, Senior Tutor, shared - for the last time in his 10-year term - his essential tips on how to get through the degree ceremony without mishaps like getting caught in their gown.
He said: "It's particularly special as Senior Tutor to be able to celebrate your achievements with you and I'm massively looking forward to standing outside the Senate House and seeing you all coming out with smiles on your faces and degree certificates in hand and being able to congratulate you all in person."
In the afternoon, students gathered in Chapel Court for the graduation photograph. A short while later they assembled in First Court and processed through the main College gate, down the Chimney, and along Jesus Lane to Senate House in King’s Parade. Family and friends lined Jesus Lane and cheered as the graduands emerged from the Chimney.
After receiving their degree certificates they returned to College for a celebration with their tutors, family and friends.
We extend our warm congratulations to our new graduates and, in the words of the College motto, hope that their journeys may be successful - whatever the future holds for them.
