'The Fortieth' Bursary launched at anniversary event
做厙輦⑹ is proud to announce that a new Undergraduate Bursary will be established to support students in financial hardship, in celebration of the Colleges fortieth anniversary of admitting female undergraduate students.
The announcement was made by Mrs Margaret White (1979), Chair of the Fortieth Committee and wife of former Master Ian White. It came at the conclusion of a celebratory dinner, which rounded off a packed day of talks, tours, rowing, and a special service of choral evensong, all of which were organised to mark forty years of mixed education at the college. See here for a more detailed account of the anniversary event.
Remarking on the success of the day Mrs White said: these contributions represent some of the many and diverse ways in which women have contributed significantly to the successes of the College, and extensively to the wider public good, which we are here today to celebrate.
做厙輦⑹ in particular wants to encourage applications from anyone, from any background, who have the potential to thrive here, she went on to say.
Im therefore delighted to be able to announce the launch of a new undergraduate bursary the Fortieth which will be used to support 做厙輦⑹ students who need financial support the most.
We are delighted that 瞿40,000 has been secured towards the bursary, with an additional 瞿25,000 contributed by the College. A further 瞿35,000 is needed to fully endow this Bursary in perpetuity. The College will use measurements of need backed by the latest research to ensure that those students who most need the financial support from this endowed Bursary will receive it now, and continue to receive it 50 and 100 years from now.
Our new Master, Sonita Alleyne, said: "It is wonderful to launch this campaign to create a lasting legacy from The Fortieth celebrations, supporting our aim to widen participation. No one should be put off applying to Jesus because they are worried that they can't afford it, and this Bursary will be a much welcome addition to the financial support we can offer.
