Jesuan part of Turner prize-winning group
Alice Edgerley (2006) is a member of Assemble, the first art, architecture and design collective to win the Turner prize.
Assemble’s members work across the fields of art, architecture and design. The first 'non-artists' to win the prestigious prize, they were nominated for an unusual urban regeneration project.
Granby Four Streets is a cluster of terraced houses in Toxteth, Liverpool. Following the 1981 Toxteth riots, the Council acquired many of the houses in the area for redevelopment. Hundreds of people were moved out the area and the houses subsequently fell into disrepair.
Building on the impressive regeneration work already done by local residents, Assemble worked with the Granby Four Streets Community Land Trust and Steinbeck Studios to present a sustainable vision for the area. The plan includes the refurbishment of housing and public space, and the provision of new work and enterprise opportunities.
