Jesus students selected for 2021 rugby Varsity matches

Congratulations to Jen Atherton (2017) and Max Loveridge (2020), who’ve been selected in the University of Cambridge squads to face Oxford in the .

Jen has recently completed an MEng in Manufacturing Engineering, is a Full Blue in football, and was also selected for the Varsity football and cricket matches. CUWRFC go into the match on Sunday 4 July hoping to retain the title for the fourth consecutive year. Overall, Oxford leads Cambridge by eight victories, 20-12.

Max is studying for a MEng in Chemical Engineering. A victory for the men’s team on Sunday would be their second in a row, and would bring the Light Blue's wins up to 65. Cambridge currently leads Oxford by four victories, 64-60.

Max said: “Having a chance to compete in any sort of Varsity Match this year is a great opportunity that has seemed quite unlikely at many points throughout the season. As a group, we’ve had to work incredibly hard to be in a position to compete against the Other Place this year and it now feels great to be so close to the main event. I have no doubt the months of hard graft will be worth it when we take the field on the 4th and, hopefully, come off victorious.”

The 2021 rugby Varsity matches will kick off at 1pm (men’s team) and 3.30pm (women’s team) on Sunday 4 July, at the Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium in Leicester. Both games will also be live streamed.

We wish Jen, Max and their teammates every success, and will be cheering on both teams on this weekend. on the official website.
