Professor James Clackson elected as Vice-Master

Following the departure of Professor Ian White, who has left the role of Master to become the Vice Chancellor of the University of Bath, the Society has elected Professor James Clackson to the post of Vice-Master.

Elected to the Chair of Comparative Philology in the Faculty of Classics in 2015, Professor Clackson has been a Fellow of Jesus since 1998 and Director of Studies in Classics since 1999. He has held numerous other College roles, including President, Fellows’ Steward, Tutorial Advisor, Director of Studies in Linguistics, and Chair of the Junior Research Fellowships committee.

Professor Clackson said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been elected to serve as Vice-Master. I look forward to working with Fellows, staff, students and alumni to ensure that the College continues to thrive as well as it has done under Ian White’s leadership.â€

The Bursar, Dr Richard Anthony, said: “On behalf of everyone associated with the College, I would like to wish James congratulations on the appointment. His knowledge of the College will be invaluable in the upcoming months.â€

Professor Clackson will remain as Vice-Master while the Master role is vacant. The College is in the process of selecting the next Master.
