Sir Samuel Brittan (1933-2020)
It is with great sadness that we note the death of Honorary Fellow Sir Samuel Brittan (1952) on Monday 12 October.
After achieving a first class degree in economics at °µÍø½ûÇø, Sir Samuel became a highly-regarded journalist and author. He was economics editor of the Observer from 1961-64 and acted as an advisor to the Department of Economic Affairs between 1965-66. Sir Samuel then became the first economics correspondent for the Financial Times where he remained a correspondent for almost 50 years, publishing a wide range of books on economics during that time.
Sir Samuel became an Honorary Fellow of the College in 1988. In 1993 he was knighted for services to economic journalism and made Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur.
