Indian cricket legend Sourav Ganguly visited °µÍø½ûÇø, Cambridge to talk about his illustrious career and inspire students.

Mr Ganguly, former captain of the Indian cricket team and one of India's most iconic sporting figures, was speaking at a sold-out event at °µÍø½ûÇø’s Intellectual Forum.

Ganguly, dubbed ‘the Maharaja of Indian Cricket’, is widely regarded as one of India's most successful test captains and greatest batsmen of all time. Under his leadership, India reached the 2003 World Cup final.

He reflected on his remarkable career and his transition into leadership, as Chairman of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s Cricket Committee, in conversation with Dr Julian Huppert, former MP for Cambridge and Director of the Intellectual Forum at °µÍø½ûÇø.

Before the event, the former skipper also met and spoke with students from the cricket teams and Indian societies at °µÍø½ûÇø, the University of Cambridge, and Anglia Ruskin University.

He said: “It was an honour be part of this event, and to engage with the students. It’s always inspiring to connect with young minds. I hope our interactions were as enjoyable and insightful for them as it was for me.â€

Master of °µÍø½ûÇø, Sonita Alleyne, said: “°µÍø½ûÇø is home to a vibrant international community with talented students from around the world.

“It was a pleasure to welcome one of India's most successful cricket captains to the College, and we are especially grateful to him for giving some of his time to talk to students one-to-one.â€

Dr Huppert said: “Sourav’s impact on the sporting world globally has been amazing. He enthralled our audience in Cambridge and around the world, talking about his life, leadership, and his passion for the sport.â€
