Dr Miranda Robbins
Miranda Robbins is a postdoctoral scientist at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. Her research focuses on how memory is stored in the brain through molecular, cellular, and network-level approaches, with the aim of developing therapeutic treatments for neurological disorders.
Academic interests
Miranda’s academic interests include:
- Learning and memory
- Memory engrams
- Novel therapeutics.
Degrees obtained
- BSc Molecular Biology, UCL.
- MSc Integrative Neuroscience, University of Edinburgh.
- MRes Sensor Technology, Cantab.
- PhD Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Cantab.
Biography
After studying at UCL and the University of Edinburgh, Miranda joined the EPSRC CDT in Sensor Technologies for her postgraduate studies at the University of Cambridge, focusing on the role of synapses in neurodegenerative disorders. In joining Dr Marta Zlatic’s lab, she aims to elucidate how different types of memory are formed and stored in the brain. In the future, Miranda intends to use this research to design therapeutics for disorders where learning and memory are impaired.
Miranda is a supporter of open technologies and has helped in the development of open-source hardware for biological imaging.
Other interests
Road and track cycling, art, stand-up comedy.
